Scope The lighting project was performed in over 100 buildings throughout the Base, some having received damage from the storm and others intact. From Dorms to Offices to Classrooms to Recreational Facilities, over 22,000 fixtures were either retrofited or upgarded with energy efficient T8 lamps and ballasts, compact florescent lamps, or new T8 fixtures. Specular reflectors were installed where applicable for further energy savings. A large portion of the project involved converting incandescent fixtures in the dorms to energy efficient compact florescent lamps. To assist in the energy survey and study, lighting loggers were installed to measure hours of operation and occupancy. Wattages were verified from a M&V study on a sample size of different fixture types following Federal guidelines. New lay-in lenses and wrap lenses were installed to replace existing damaged or missing lenses. Results The project proved to be a success. The lighting kW and kWh were reduced significantly, resulting in potential savings of over $125,000 annually. The light levels and appearance within the given areas were enhanced as well. Additional maintenance savings dollars will be realized thru the standardization of lamps and ballast and the life expectancy of the newer products. .
